Rating: 8.3
[Hometapes; 2005; Instrumental]
While I’m most compelled to talk about opener and highlight, My Apple Has Four Legs, that’s today’s download (provided by Hometapes themselves) so you can check it out for yourself. No need for me to describe how amazing it’s composition and transitions are…
And by saying that, I don’t mean to distract from the rest of the tracks. With the exception of the strangely out of place, 50 second Coffee Bean (with it’s droney foundation and light blips) overall, Feathers (Eddie Alonso, Matt Crum and Eric Rasco) has created a solid first installation of a three part EP series.
There is plenty of variety among tracks, as well as within each track, to keep you tightly focused on the complex arrangements and layers of sound coming from strings, flute, brass, harpsicord, farfisa organ, electric sitar, cello, bass clarinet, bass harmonica, trombone, a pinch of electronics and a healthy dose of processing.
It sounds somewhat like what I would imagine as a Beach Boys symphony as composed by Architecture In Helsinki.
